Plains Horsemen battle against Arlee Warriors

PLAINS - The Friday night game between the Plains Horsemen and the Arlee Warriors was a hard fought game for the Horsemen.

The night started off with a celebration of the seniors where Cole Benson, Trent Brouillette, Justin Clinkenbeard, Ty Cummings, Travis Kreis, Chayton Lulack, and Tyler Subatch were escorted out onto the field by their parents and bios were read of their achievements and future plans.

Then the game got going, with Plains receiving. On a strong start, Trent Brouillette returned for 46 yards and by 11:45 on the clock, the Horsemen scored a touchdown and extra point. The score stood, Plains 7, Arlee 0.

Immediately after the Plains touchdown, Arlee came back with a strong scored a touchdown and two point conversion at 11:23 on the clock. It was now Plains 7, Arlee 8.

The next drive for the Horsemen saw Aaren VonHeeder and Cole Benson gaining yardage, but the Horsemen couldn’t move down the field and had to punt. 

On the return, Arlee returned for 70 yards and scored a touchdown and a two point conversion at 9:49 in the first quarter. It was now 7-16.

The next drive for Plains was a long, drawn out fight down the field. Brouillette started of with a 22 yard return. He then ran for two more and then five more. Subatch then gained one and then three for a first down. Ryan Ovitt ran for a 15 yard gain getting another first down. As the Horsemen inched their way down the field, a pass was intercepted at the 20 yard line.

Arlee was not able to take advantage of the interception and had to turn over the ball. 

The Horsemen would fall to the same fate and not be able to move the ball down the field, and they had to turn over the ball.

Near the end of the first quarter, Plains started their drive at their nine yard line. Ovitt gained 10 yards. VonHeeder then gained another 17 yards. A flag was called against Arlee and Plains was given 15 yards. Ovitt gained another 13 yards. The buzzer sounded the end of the first quarter. The score was at 7-16, however, Plains was still on a strong drive down the field. The Horsemen were pushed back a bit, but VonHeeder scored a touchdown. A two point conversion was then scored. The score was now 15-16 at 11:23 on the clock in the second.

At 9:07 the Warriors scored a touchdown, but were unable to gain the extra two points. The score was now at 15-22.

The next drive for Plains started with Brouillette running for 17 yards on the return and then Ovitt running for six and then three yards. After a time out called at 7:30 on the clock, Benson would gain another five yards. The Horsemen were then pushed back five yards. From there they were unable to finish their drive and had to punt.

The Warriors scored a touchdown at 4:23 in the second. They were unable to score a two point conversion against the Horsemen defense. The score was now, Plains 15, Arlee 28.

Plains had to punt on the next drive from deep within their territory.

Right at the 2:00 minute warning the Warriors scored a touchdown and two point conversion. Plains, 15, Arlee 36.

As the clocked ticked Arlee scored a touchdown. The score stood was now15-42.

The Horsemen, within the last minute of the second quarter had moved all the way down the field, but the buzzer sounded and the scoreboard showed Plains 15, Arlee 42.

To begin the third quarter, The Horsemen put up a strong defense and the Warriors had to turn over the ball on the first drive.

Plains’ drive consisted of Benson receiving a big 20 yard reception and then Alec Cole receiving a 20 yard pass. Brouillette then scored a touchdown at 8:41 on the clock. The two point conversion was intercepted and the score now stood at 21-42.

With 6:27 on the clock, Arlee would add 8 more points, bringing the score to 21-50.

Brouillette started the next drive with a 22 yard return. Cole ran for 10 yards. A penalty against Arlee gave the Horsemen another five yards. Cody Sheehan then ran for 20 yards to score a touchdown. Cole then scored a two point conversion. The score was now 29-50 at 5:26 in the third.

The Warriors then scored a touchdown after a 65 yard kickoff return. A try for a two point conversion was unsuccessful and the score was, 29-56, with 5:08 left on the clock in the third quarter.

Plains worked down the field on the next drive, but in the end they were unable to push past the Arlee defense and had to punt.

Scoring a touchdown a touchdown with 2:22 in the third, Arlee lead the way, 29-64.

The third quarter ended with the Horsemen working down the field; Brouillette returning for 15, and Subatch receiving a big 20 yard pass. 

Despite the strong drive that carried over from the third quarter, Plains had to punt.

Arlee then had to punt on their drive.

Near the 5:00 minute mark in the fourth quarter, Arlee intercepted a pass and scored a touchdown and two point conversion, bringing the score to 29-72. 

Plains then scored a touchdown after a long drive. Brouillette scored the touchdown and an extra point was scored. The score was 36-72 at 1:52 on the clock.

The game finished with Arlee in possession of the ball and winning 36-72.
