MC Helpline Fall Bazaar promotes good cause

SUPERIOR – Residents gathered to sell their wares and raise money for a good cause Saturday during the Mineral County Help Line’s eighth annual fall bazaar.
The event acted as a fundraiser for the help line. Each of the dozen or so vendors gave $10 for their table and a silent auction was available for people to give more; a donation jar was also available.
Vendors sold a variety of items. Some stocked Christmas and Halloween ornaments; others sold hand made items, like knitting, woodworking and art. Jewelry, candy and other assorted knick-knacks were also being sold.
Most years they have a good turn out with people coming from all over the county, and even from outside the area to shop and make a donation.
“We have a good turnout usually,” said Pauline Perkins, one of the leaders of the organization. “Some of them have been with us from the beginning, some of them [are] a new one, but they all come out to help us.”
According to Perkins, the group typically just breaks even with everything raised at the event; though sometimes they earn enough money to have extra. However, the core purpose of the event is accomplished by raising awareness of the organization and getting their information out to people who need it.
The help line provides a variety of services for victims of domestic abuse, from advocacy and counseling to helping a victim get somewhere safe or pointing someone in the right direction for legal help.
