Tigers football beat Panthers by 1

ALBERTON/ST. REGIS – After a close game, the St. Regis Tigers edged out the Alberton Panthers by one point with a final score of 69-68.

The first half of the game was fairly close with both teams making lots of good plays throughout. St. Regis Head Coach Jesse Allan recalled his team were good throwers for the quarter while the Panthers had lots of good running plays. He recalled Nick Turnbull made five rushing touchdowns.

In the second half, the teams continued to play a strong game. The Tigers wound up down by 17 points, but were able to come back and began to recover. With 11 seconds left on the clock, Brock Cantrell-Field made a huge throw to Dillon Morales for a final touchdown, stopping the clock at two seconds.

As Alberton claimed possession they made a final attempt for another touchdown, but overshot the pass and the buzzer sounded the end of the game.

There were several good plays for St. Regis during the game. Allan recalled Cantrell-Field got eight touchdown passes and three rushing touchdowns. Morales also completed four receptions with his brother James Morales making two. Their coach was very happy with the team’s performance.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the guys we have,” Allan said.

The Tigers’ next game is on Wednesday, October 14 where they will travel to play against the Lincoln Lynx. Allan recalled they were another small team and were good throwers; he noted their quarterback had a good arm. However, he had good hopes for the outcome of the game.

“We’re pretty confident we’ll be able to pull out another win,” Allan said.

Recently the St. Regis team has been dealing with some illnesses, so they are hoping to recover from those. In practices, they have been focusing on putting everything together and playing a good game.
