Darby Takes the Lead Over Alberton in Friday Night Volleyball Game

The Alberton Lady Panthers hosted the Darby Lady Tigers on Friday, October 23rd. The Lady Panthers were outfitted in pink jerseys in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
“The girls wanted to bring awareness to the community by fundraising for breast cancer,” said Alberton Volleyball Coach Lexy Fisher, “they raised money for their pink jerseys by selling hand bags over the past few months. The jerseys will be used again next year”.
The girls also auctioned off baked goods at the game, with proceeds supporting breast cancer. Mackenzie Spence and Sam Clevenger made a vanilla cake with “Fight Back Girls” written on top in black and pink icing. Deven Dutt and team manager Kierstan McConnell made a pink Watermelon Blast cake. Montanna and Emmah Baughman made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Rounding it out, Rebecca Pluth and Bethany Shaske made a chocolate coffee cake decorated with pink frosting.
With the game underway, the two teams were close with point by point scores. But in the end, Darby pulled ahead and outpaced Alberton 25-14. The next set was also close with Alberton taking the lead for a 25-21 win. In the third set, Darby took an early lead and won 25-10. In the final set of the night Darby again pulled into the lead early, gaining a final score of 25-12.
Darby pulled in 22 aces, with Sarah Costello leading the team with 9. Compared to Alberton’s 8 aces, led by Mackenzie Spence with 3. Alberton also had 35 digs, team leader Deveyn Dutt making 12. Alberton had 14 kills, led by Montanna Baughman with 5. Rebecca Pluth made all 9 assists. Successful serves were also led by Dutt with 11 followed by Sam Clevenger and Rebecca Pluth, both with 9.
