ST. REGIS – The St. Regis schools received recognition recently, when their AltaCare program was named Northwestern Region Program of the Year.

The award was issued based on annual surveys given to the schools, parents and students AltaCare serves. According to Jan Ellis, the counselor at the St. Regis schools, they did not get any complaints on their program when the surveys.

“[This] is hard since we cover some pretty difficult issues,” Ellis said. “We definitely couldn’t have done it without the great staff at the school and community.”

Last weekend, October 17 and 18, St. Regis principal Joe Steele received a plaque recognizing the award. He was happy for the recognition and felt it spoke to the quality of their AltaCare program at the school.

“This is indicative of the class relationship the administration and AltaCare employees have in working with the whole child to help them be successful,” said Steele.

AltaCare brings counseling services to schools to help students and staff who need counseling for psychological issues, family problems as well as other needs. The organization’s programs are offered throughout the school year as well as during the summer.

There are also programs in Noxon, Libby and other schools around the Northwestern part of the state.

“Out of all those we get recognized,” said Ellis of the competition.
