PLAINS - Saturday evening during the Sanders County Rodeo, a Plains resident was awarded the Community Service Award.
Randy Garrison, a fourth generation Plains resident, received the award, which is given to an individual in the community who stands above the rest for selfless acts and commitment to his or her community.
“I announce during the basketball and football games. I help out with projects at the school,” Garrison said.
Garrison has helped produce banners, fliers and other graphic desigs for the school, utilizing his expertise in digital printing. Whenever there is a project at the school, Garrison has been noted as a usual volunteer.
In addition to his constant work with the Plains school, Garrison is also the current Plains Airport manager.
Garrison said that he and the airport committee work to promote the airport and have worked with the WSA in Plains to utilize the old airport properties as baseball and soccer fields.
When asked how he felt about receiving the award, Garrison said, “I think it is very humbling, there’s a lot of people out there that I think are equally if not more deserving than I am.”
Remaining humble, Garrison explained why he volunteers and helps so much, “I just always like to volunteer and step up and get things done, that’s the way I’ve done it.”
