THOMPSON FALLS - The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks took on the Ronan Maidens last Thursday in a five set match in Thompson Falls. The teams were evenly matched and both fought hard till the end.

The Lady Hawks took the first two sets, both times barely holding off the girls from Ronan from taking the lead.

In the first set, the Lady Hawks took the lead, but the Maidens quickly put points up and tied the Lady Hawks at 3-3 and later at 9-9, never falling behind by more than two points. After being tied at 9-9, the Hawks charged ahead and led the Maidens 20-13, but when the first set looked like a wrap up for Thompson Falls, Ronan closed the gap to 22-18. In the end the Lady Hawks would take the first set at 25 to 20, but it became evident Ronan wasn’t going to give up without a fight.

In the second set the Lady Hawks charged ahead in the beginning. At one point the point spread was 8-3. However, Ronan caught up and put enough points on the board to set even the score at 9-9, 10-10, and 11-11, each team trading single point gains every serve.

The Lady Hawks pulled ahead again, but then as in the beginning of the set, Ronan caught up. The crowd became wild as the score was 22-22, then 23-23 and then the Lady Hawks put two points on the board and won the set at 25-23.

Set three at first went to the Lady Hawks, but near the middle of the set, Ronan fought hard and took the lead at the very end. Up until that point, the Lady Hawks held the lead, but just barely, and at 24 points, the Maidens tied and then added another point. The score was 24-25. A time out was called by Thompson Falls. Then the Lady hawks brought the score up to 25-25, but the Maidens scored two points and won the set, 25-27.

The fourth set started out with Ronan climbing ahead and holding the lead. At one point it looked like they were going to win the set with a large point spread. 10-16 was the score near the middle of the set. However, the Lady Hawks took a time out, and came back ready to fight. Ronan would gain a point, but then Thompson Falls would add two or three, gaining ground. At 19 points the two teams were at a tie. The Lady Hawks surged ahead, but the Maidens would catch up and tie again at 22 points. The Lady Hawks then gave it all they had and took the lead and won the set and match, 25-22.
