St. Regis , Superior show promise at Jim Johnson meet

The Jim Johnson Invitational Track and Field tournament was held at the Frenchtown High School on Thursday, March 31. The tournament, named in honor of long-time Alberton teacher and coach, Jim Johnson, hosted 27 schools. Johnson, who is now retired, was still on-hand to record times and help organize the event where students spent the day running, jumping, and throwing in their respective sports under mostly sunny skies.
In the girls individual overall scores, St. Regis Madison Kelly took third in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600. While in the boys individual overall, Superior’s Nathan Lapinski placed first in the 800.
In the 14C district, Brock Cantrell-Field from St. Regis, took first in discuss and javelin, and second in high jump. For pole vaulting, Superior’s Kaleb Ververis and Blaine Parkin took third and fourth place. In girls 14C, Superior Emma Duboise took first in pole vault.
In boys 13C district, Alberton’s Sterling Reese took fourth in shot put, and Nick Turnbull took second in javelin and third in discus. Alberton’s Jesse Shaske took second in 13C long jump, and Rebecca Pluth took third in girls javelin.
