Jake Ryan was arrested Tuesday in Vancouver, Wash., according to Sanders County Undersheriff Lanning Hensley.

Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel said he was notified by the FBI of Ryan's arrest, according to a brief statement posted on the sheriff's department Facebook page.

Ryan, 27, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge standoff.

Maxine Bernstein of The Oregonian/OregonLive reported Wednesday afternoon that Ryan was captured hiding after a homeowner called 911, and "officers found Ryan asleep in a shed on the property with a loaded .45-caliber handgun and several knives..."

The Oregonian/OregonLive is also reporting that FBI agents from Portland booked Ryan into the Multnomah County Detention Center at 3:59 p.m. Tuesday.

On Wednesday he appeared before a judge and entered a not guilty plea. Assistant federal public defender Gerald Needham was appointed to represent him.

Ryan is charged with federal conspiracy to impede officers at the federal wildlife refuge near Burns, Ore. through intimidation, threats or force, possession of a firearm or dangerous weapon in a federal facility and degradation of government property.

The arrest comes roughly one month after being named in a federal indictment. Ryan, along with co-defendant Sean Anderson, is accused of digging a trench on an archaeological site at the refuge. The site is considered to be sacred ground for the Burns Paiute Tribe.
