Jam Cracker comment period extended
Due to a technical oversight, the Forest Service has reinitiated the 30-day comment period on the Jam Cracker Environmental Assessment, according to a statement released by District Ranger, Carole Johnson on August 11.
Comments on the Environmental Assessment will be accepted for 30 days following publication of the legal notice in the Missoulian newspaper, to be published around August 12.
In summary of the project, the Forest Service is proposing the Jam Cracker project to restore vegetative conditions; reduce hazardous fuels; improve elk forage; support communities; and maintain a suitable transportation system.
The project also includes a proposal to amend Forest Plan Management Area allocations on approximately 1611 acres as determined by site-specific data. The project area, of approximately 83,000 acres, is located on the Superior and Ninemile Ranger Districts between the town of Superior and South Fork Nemote Creek. The EA discloses the project’s foreseeable environmental effects.
