Kathryn Louise “Katie Lou” Johnson Rosenow, 78

| December 1, 2016 4:00 AM

Kathryn Louise Rosenow departed to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 31, 2016. She passed away peacefully with family in Kalispell.
Katie was 78 years old, the only child of CG “Bill” and Kathryn Johnson. She was born Dec. 14, 1937. She graduated from Plains High School and went on to graduate from the University of Montana where she obtained her teaching degree.
Upon graduation from college Katie taught in Kauai, Hawaii, where she met her husband David. They were married in Plains on Dec. 18, 1960.
They moved to Frannie, Wyo., where Katie gave birth to her first two children, Marcie and Jason. The family then moved to Las Vegas where she had two more daughters, Betsy and Jodie.
Katie loved to sew. She made matching Easter outfits for the family every year, as well as making several other garments for the family throughout the years, including her daughter’s wedding dresses. Her love of sewing developed into a passion for quilt making. She made quilts for her family as well as each of her grandchildren upon their high school graduations.
She was also an accomplished pianist and organist and played regularly for church services. She taught music at Plains Elementary and piano lessons after school.
She was always passionate and supportive of all of her children’s endeavors. She loved being a mother and especially loved coming to Montana every summer to spend time at her beloved family cabin on the Thompson River. After 15 years in Las Vegas the family moved back to Plains where she lived the rest of her life, happy to be back home.
Every chance she had Katie would escape town life to relax, enjoy nature and spend time with the Lord at her cabin. She would often entertain friends and family there as well. The cabin was her place of retreat and R & R for herself and anyone else who visited there.
She was very involved in her local congregation playing both the piano and organ for services, as well as teaching Sunday School and leading Bible Studies. She was a long time member and leader of AGLOW Women’s Fellowship and quick to volunteer for not only church, but many community events and organizations.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, loving to travel to be with her children and grandchildren. The last few years she took a break from the cold Montana winters by spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with her children in Phoenix, Sacramento and Houston.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years David Rosenow; and her parents, Bill and Kathryn Johnson. She is survived by her four children, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandson; Marcie Albright of Kalispell, and children, Beau and Taylor; Jason and wife Crissie Rosenow of Phoenix, and children Samantha, Olivia, Jacob and Jared; Betsy and husband Jim Burman of Sacramento, Calif., and children Jessica, Parker, Brittany and husband Jordan and grandchild Cannon; Jodie and husband Francisco Chacon of Houston, and children Andres, Benjamin and Gabriel.
Funeral arrangements have been made through Sunset Hills Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14 at the Harvest Community Church in Plains. Burial will follow at the Plains Cemetery.
