Elwin Jamie 'Jim' Drobny, 83

| December 7, 2016 4:00 AM

Jim was born in Baker City, Oregon, on June 1, 1933. He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons and families, Chris (Tina), Jim (Patti) Frank and Art Drobny; stepchildren, Robyn (Marty) Trott, Chris Miller and Dan (Lonnie) Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Elmer McGraw of Bend, Oregon; and more than 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Candius Miller, passed away suddenly in August 2016.

Jim was such an extraordinary man. Loved his horses and cattle ranching but was a logger at heart. Was an exceptional heavy equipment mechanic and operator, working on power lines all over the country. Happiest when on the road again, heading for the next big job with his pickup and RV, tools, wife and dog. Everyone will miss his sourdough biscuits, pancakes and even sourdough chocolate cake. Fishing and hunting were his passions and especially loved Georgetown Lake. He will always be in our hearts and we know he loved us all. He was the best of the best and healthy again. “You are with God now and your loved ones. And we are sure you have a rifle in one hand and a fishing pole in the other, and Rosie on your heels following you to wherever. All the time, Jim, always.”

Please join us at the Alberton Methodist Church, Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. for a celebration of Jim’s life. There will also be a memorial gathering June 3 at the Deer Creek Campground in DeBorgia, where the kids will play in the creek, and we’ll have a campfire, roast hot dogs and marshmallows, and tell stories. He’d like that.

“I pray that I may live to fish

until my dying day

and when it comes to my last cast;

I then most humbly pray,

when in the Lord’s great landing net

and peacefully asleep

that in his mercy; I be judged

big enough to keep.”
