Thompson Falls 7th at season-opening invite
POLSON — Kaleb Frank claimed the 120-pound championship to help Thompson Falls to a seventh-place team finish at the Owen Invitational at Polson High School on Saturday.
The Blue Hawks totaled 91 points and were the second-highest scoring Class B/C team, behind only Eureka (139, third) in an event that included Class A and AA schools.
Frank pinned Polson’s Mateo Quinones late in the first round to win the title at 120.
Cody Garrison (152) and Jase Sorenson (170) also advanced to the championship match in their respective weight class, but both wound up second. Garrison was pinned just 31 seconds into his match by Mason Fetters (Columbia Falls) while Storm Kemppainen (Columbia Falls) outpointed Sorensen, 8-1, at 170.
Garrett Jones earned the only other top-four placement for the Blue Hawks, finishing fourth at 113.
Missoula Sentinel won the invite with 155 1/2 points, just ahead of Columbia Falls (146).
