St. Regis, Clark Fork Girls taste victory during Western C Tournament

The Western C Tip-off Tournament was held at Pablo’s Salish Kootenai College and the Ronan Event Center over this past weekend

In Friday’s Dec. 9 games, the girls basketball teams claimed victory for both St. Regis and Clark Fork.

St. Regis dominated Victor, 51-13, where sisters Madison Hill and Emma Hill racked up 18 and 12 points. The Lady Tigers roared through the first quarter putting 15 points on the board, leaving the Pirates in the dust with zero.

They dominated again in the third quarter with another 17 points and 13 in the fourth. The Pirates managed to put up nine points in the second half of the game. Tiger teammates Madison Kelly had 6 points, Anna Sanford and Justice Tate each had 8 and Kylee Thompson 4.

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats took a roller coaster ride with Charlo which ended in a nail-biter finish of 39-36 with the Cats riding in the victory seat. The teams were neck-and-neck in the first quarter where the Cats had 9 and Charlo with 10. Then in the second quarter, the Cats fell behind, ending at the half with 14-21. But Samantha Clevenger bolted in the fourth quarter, putting six of her 17 points on the board for the win. Kenzie Mueller added another 11 to the victory plate. Hailey Kelly had 7, and Madison Mask, 4.

St. Regis boys lose in overtime against Darby on Friday

St. Regis boys succumbed to Darby 67-60 in overtime as the Tiger’s battled it out on the court in Friday’s game. It was a close 28-26 at the half with Darby leading by a bucket. Brock Cantrell-Field sprang to life in the third quarter, putting 14 of his game-high 28 points up. Teams were tied 54-54 at the end of the fourth quarter. Darby’s Dylan Parks put up 5 in over-time, leading his team to a final victory of 67-60.

St. Regis Trevor Lowry had 18 points, Nic Day 5, Erick Eslick 6, and Brandon Managan 3.

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats struggled against Noxon with a 45-21 loss. Noxon held Clark Fork at a steady clip throughout the game with a half-time score of 17-9. Noxon put up another 28 in the second half to the Cats 12. Nick Turnbull led the team with 12 points, followed by Michael Spence with 7, and Korey Radford, 2.

St. Regis boys gain victory over Victor, 74-47

On Saturday at Pablo’s Salish Kootenai College, St. Regis boys dominated the court over the Victor Pirates with a 74-47 win. Brock Cantrell-Field buried five 3-point shots and totaled 29 points to put the Tigers in the lead. The Tigers and Pirates were tied at 17-17 after one quarter but Cantrell-Field exploded for nine points in the second with a 18-8 run.

St. Regis went on to outscore Victor by 17 points in the second half. Brandon Managan had 15, Nic Day with 12, and Trevor Lowry and Eric Eslick both had seven points to propel the Tigers to the win.

The Clark Fork fell to Philipsburg in Saturday’s game suffering a 42-22 loss. Philipsburg’s Colton Grange led the bunch with 13 points, six coming in a 19-point fourth quarter for Granite. Kade Cutler reached also reached double figures for the Prospectors with 10 points. Clark Fork’s Michael Spence led four scorers with nine points.

St. Regis girls lose tournament to Seeley-Swan, 40-33

In Ronan on Saturday’s Western C girls’ basketball tip-off tournament, St. Regis took a loss to Seeley-Swan after a hard fought game with a final score of 40-33. It was 19-16 at the half, but the Lady Blackhawks pulled ahead in the third quarter putting 15 points on the board to the Tiger’s four. But the Tigers fought back in the fourth quarter with 13 more points to the Blackhawks’ six. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to pull out the win. Both Madison Hill and Justice Tate had game high scores of 12 points each. Madison Kelly, Emma Hill, and Kylee Thompson had 2, Anna Sanford 3.

In their final game of the tournament, the Clark Fork Mountain Cats rolled over Noxon with a 40-26 win. The Cats led through most of the game, except in the third quarter, when the Red Devils put up 10 points to the Cats seven. It was 23-8 at the half with Samantha Clevenger leading the way as team high scorer with 15 points. Hailey Kelly had 9, Kenzie Mueller 7, Madison Mask 6, Katherine Parkin 2, and Margaret Parkin 1.
