Eva Horning Park to receive equipment upgrade

| February 2, 2016 3:17 PM

Long-time Superior resident and park namesake, Eva Horning, would be proud of what the Mineral County Community Foundation (MCCF) is planning to do with the Eva Horning Park. For the first time, the MCCF approved to earmark $5,000 of its annual distribution of funds as seed money to fund a community project to upgrade and expand the playground at the park.

Liz Gupton said that the MCCF money will be used to kick start matching funds when applying for other grants. Phase one of the project includes swings and ‘continuous play’ activities like climbing, ramps, monkey bars, and slides, as well as stand-alone equipment, explained Gupton.

The MCCF had conversations with the city of Superior, business and county leaders, teachers, parents and kids to discuss the need for the equipment.

“The results were positive for such an effort to take place as soon as possible,” according to the MCCF.

Gupton said that they have received some grants and donations and that they are hoping to start the installation by this spring, but it depends on funding and the project may not see completion until the end of the year.

Tom McCloskey with the Superior Town Council is also coordinating the installation of three barbecue grills at the park. For additional information, or to make a contribution, visit website: mtcf.org or on Facebook at Mineral County Community Foundation.
