NOXON – The Missoula Children’s Theater is coming to the Noxon schools this week to perform a production of the musical The Jungle Book, starring the students themselves.

The play will feature students from kindergarten to 12th grade. According to Sari MacArthur, music teacher at Noxon, the troupe arrived in the community on Monday and held auditions for the show.

There has already been lots of interest from among the students. On Friday, MacArthur said many of the kids had been asking for information about the production as well as permission slips to perform.

“We’ll see if we get a lot who come to the auditions and stuff, but the students are pretty excited about it,” she said.

Those who get parts will have a tough time, though. The cast only gets a week to prepare and MacArthur said they are doing four-hour rehearsals every day. While not everybody has to be at every rehearsal for the full time, the central cast does and everyone else is still under a heavy deadline to memorize everything.

According to MacArthur, two actors from Missoula came to Noxon with all the equipment and supplies they would need. They have also been holding a variety of workshops in the classrooms this week in preparation.

Missoula Children’s Theater has been to Noxon before, but it has been a long time since they performed there. MacArthur recalled she had been teaching there for four years and they had not been there in that time.
