SANDERS COUNTY – The start of February this week also marks the start of I Love to Read Month with a variety of activities set to begin at the county’s schools.

The Plains school’s theme is Feelin’ Groovy – Peace, Love and Books. The month’s events have a 1960’s vibe with tie-dye and crazy colors.

The students will have a variety of competitions throughout the month and the administrators will be making special trips around some of the classrooms to read to the kids and promote reading. At the end of February, the students with the most points will get to make tie-dye bandannas, under the guidance of Mrs. Pluth, and put in a vote for a color administrators and counselors have to dye their hair.

Come early March, Plains schools will have a number of book fairs culminating in an assembly to announce the results.

The Hot Springs Schools are holding a number of dress-up days during the month, starting on Monday, February 8. The school’s theme this year is Curl Up With a Good Book. All the grades of the school, from kindergarten to 12th grade, will be able to participate in the month’s events.

Some of the themed days are wearing pajamas, dressing as a fisherman or in camouflage, bringing a stuffed animal and wearing their favorite hat, to name a few. The students will also be expected to spend 20 minutes reading each day.

The Preston Library in Hot Springs has also gotten in on the I love to Read Month action. While they do not have specific events planned, they have challenged the community to read every day during the month of February.

The Trout Creek schools will not be participating in I Love to Read Month; they will, instead be doing things for National Reading Month in March. There are plans for school events in March, but nothing for February.

There are no events planned at the Thompson Falls Public Library.
