PLAINS – The Trotters gained a decisive victory, Friday, in their home game against the St. Regis Lady Tigers.

It was a close game as Plains scored, then St. Regis got a score of their own soon after. The Lady Tigers were able to break away for a lead thanks to a three point basket, but Plains regained the lead with back to back scores of their own. The Trotters then broke away, gaining a strong lead as their offense got stronger. They closed out the quarter with a powerful lead of 20-8.

Plains was able to keep their lead into the second quarter. St. Regis tried to come back, but could not break through the home team’s defenses and were held at 10 points back. The half closed with a score of 31-18.

As the second half opened, the Lady Tigers saw renewed energy as they fought hard against the Plains defense. Neither team made much progress as they matched scores with basket after basket. The Trotters broke the stalemate, though, and opened their lead to 20 points. As the game continued, a battle erupted on the Plains end of the court, as the Lady Tigers fought to get possession of the ball; it was not enough, though, and Plains gained another five points.

The final quarter saw St. Regis struggle to break through for any final points they could get. The Plains defense was too strong though and their offense pushed past the Lady Tigers to open to a final score of 56-25.

Head Coach Griffin felt the highlight of the game was the pressure they put on the other team. He felt the girls played a hard defense and appreciated the work they put into things.

Shannon Dimond, the team captain for the game, felt things went well. She recalled they had been working on boxing out in practices and improvements in the team’s rebounds had been evident in the game.

However, she also some of their shots could use some work; shooting for the basket and having it at the right angles to get it in the net.

This week, the Trotters play against will have their senior night against Noxon, then they travel to take on Two Eagle River. Dimond recalled they had played both teams before. Griffin noted they are entering the final games of the regular season; as a result, their practices are mainly fine tuning the strategies they are already working with and ironing out any small issues in things.

“We’ll add a little bit here and there with each game we play,” he said.
