Clark Fork Lady Cats win big over Eagles and Tigers

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats mirrored each other when they faced the Valley Christian Eagles in Missoula on Feb. 9. The boys lost to the Eagles 59-31, while the girls won, 57-26.

In typical Lady Cat fashion, the girls came out strong in the first quarter, putting 17 points on the board by the end of the first quarter, leaving the Eagles in the dust with only four points. They continued their assault throughout the rest of the game with a 29-12 lead by the half. In the final quarter, the Eagles managed to put a few more points on the board but trailed the Cats 57-26 in the end. Game high scorer was Danielle Ewoniuk with 15 points.

The boys experienced the losing end of the evening against the undefeated Eagles. They battled hard against the Eagles, with a seven point spread at the end of the first quarter at 15-8. By the half, the Eagles were still within striking distance and up 25-14. But in the third quarter, the Eagles soared past the Cats putting 27 points on the board to the Cats 10, giving the Eagles the win at 59-31. Aaron Kelly was the evening high scorer with 12 points.

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats squeaked out a win against the Darby Tigers on Thursday night, taking them into districts in third place. At the end of the first quarter, the Tigers were ahead by one point at 6-7. By the half, the Cats were up, 18-14. But in the third quarter, the Tigers pushed back and again took a slight lead of 27-31. In the end, the Cats came back, with Mike Perkins putting the final point on the board with a free throw in the final second of the game, with a Cat win of 42-40. Mike Perkins and Connor Voll were the evening high scorers with 12 points each.

The Lady Mountain Cats and the Lady Tigers kept pace with each other during the first part of their game on Thursday night. The Cats were only up by four points at the end of the first quarter, with a 12-8 score. At the half, the Tigers were only down by one point at 22-21. But in the second half of the game, the Cats lit their tails on fire and put 13 points on the board to the Tigers’ four. They did it again the fourth quarter, ending the game with a 56-36 win. The Lady Cats’ have four seniors on the team, and they all put numbers on the board. Team high scorers were Kenzie Mueller and Danielle Ewoniuk with 16 points each.
