PLAINS – In Friday’s Senior Night home game, the Plains Horsemen defeated the Red Devils of Noxon with a final score of 45-27.

Noxon got the first scores, but Plains was right behind them. The Horsemen jumped into the lead with a three-point score, but the Red Devils took it back with two points of their own. The teams continued to go back and forth, exchanging the lead by one point before Plains leapt ahead again with a three-point basket. Noxon was keeping close, but the Horsemen made a basket at the buzzer to put them into the lead with a score of 12-8.

The Horsemen continued to build their lead as the second quarter began. Both teams were playing strong and Noxon was starting to gain on Plains’ strong lead. Plains started edging back ahead, but a three-point basket by Noxon in the final seconds closed the quarter with a score of 23-17 to Plains.

The third quarter opened in a stalemate with the teams matching each basket. The Red Devils’ defense was able to keep the Horsemen from scoring, preventing them from getting close enough to make a basket. The Horsemen were able to break through, though, and open their lead. The third quarter closed with a score of 31-25.

Plains opened to a strong lead as the fourth quarter began. Both teams were moving well and pushing hard to get more points; they were trying everything to get points, taking risks with shots and moves. Both teams were getting lots of penalties and going out of bounds. The game closed with both teams fighting their hardest to get their final points.

Head Coach Carl Benson said it was a rough game, but a good one. He said their offensive rhythm struggled, but defensively they stayed strong throughout. He said nights with struggles to get baskets in was part of the game and all they could do was work through it and try harder the next game.

“We’re happy to have a win and we’ll use it as a learning experience,” Benson said.

The coach also said it was sad to see the seniors go with senior night. He said he was proud of the four years he had been playing with them and hoped they would be able to keep the season going a little longer in districts.
