THOMPSON FALLS – In one of their final games of the season, the Thompson Falls Bluehawks claimed a victory against the Whitefish Bulldogs.

Thompson Falls leapt out to an early lead, pulling ahead to five points before the Bulldogs ever got on the board. The Whitefish team was close behind and kept close with a three-point basket. The home team was keeping ahead, but Whitefish was staying close enough to be a threat. As the time ticked on the Bluehawks steadily pulled ahead until the quarter ended with a score of 17-8.

The second quarter saw both teams bringing strong offenses as well as defenses. The Whitefish team was fighting hard, but could not overcome the Thompson Falls defense to keep possession of the ball long enough to gain points. In a big play Trais Hoisington stole the ball, knocking it from midair as Whitefish shot for the basket. The first half came to a close with Thompson Falls expanding their lead to 36-21.

After halftime, the Bulldogs started pulling back. The Bluehawks were able to maintain their lead, but Whitefish closed to only nine points separating them. The intense game continued as Whitefish tried to gain ground, but Thompson Falls was able to open to a strong lead again, closing the quarter with a score of 52-35.

The final quarter saw Thompson Falls leap even further ahead. Every time Whitefish tried to close the gap, the Bluehawks gained a few more points, expanding their lead more. Both teams were showing good moves, making great steals and rebounds as neither team gave an inch. In the end, though, Thompson Falls came out ahead with a final score of 67-52.

On Friday, the Bluehawks had their senior night game against Bigfork. The game was a struggle as they fought to overcome the other team’s defense, but it was too much and they were only able to manage one point. The game closed with a final score of 17-1.

Head Coach Jake Mickelson said he had a special group graduating this year and he has been blessed to work with them for the last four years. He said he was looking forward to what the next weeks would bring for the team.

“I am excited for tournaments to begin and continue the last couple weeks of these young men’s high school basketball career,” he said.
