PLAINS – In one of the final games of the regular season, the Plains Trotters came away victorious against the Noxon Lady Red Devils.

The Trotters scored first, thanks to a steal by Kimberly Earhart, leaping ahead to a strong uncontested lead. Their scoring streak was broken by Delaney Weltz, getting Noxon on the board with a minute 25 left on the clock. As the clock counted down, a free throw by Plains pushed them ahead to a score of 10-2 for the quarter.

Both teams moved the ball well as the second quarter started. The Trotter’s defense was strong and kept the Lady Red Devils from advancing; Noxon’s defense was also good, though, and they were able to get the ball on rebounds as well as steals. The Noxon girls were coming back, gaining lots of two-point shots. A three-point basket by Jade Ladeaux put the Trotters back in a stronger lead, though, and the half closed with a score of 21-19.

The third quarter opened with Plains expanding their lead. The home team reopened to a strong lead as they pushed hard past the Noxon defense. Both teams were playing at full-steam, going back and forth but neither getting any points. At two minutes, Noxon’s Kamber Torti stole the ball and brought in another two points. However, a three-point basket at the buzzer by Plains’ Carley VonHeeder closed the quarter with a 10-point gap of 37-27.

In the final quarter, Plains regained their strong lead. While the Lady Red Devils fought hard, gaining on the Trotters, their defense had a hard time overcoming Plains’ offense. The Trotters opened their lead to 20 points, closing the game with a final score of 55-35.

Assistant Coach Kyle Cole recalled they had a strong defense, but started slipping during the second and third quarters. They came back in the third, so it was still fairly positive.

“Kind of a rough game, for senior night, but I thought they finished off strong,” said Cole.

He felt the girls needed to work on boxing out and said it would be a focus in their practices this week.

Senior Night can be a bittersweet game. Cole said it has been great having the seniors on the team and, while some still need to get comfortable in their roles, they are a strong team.
