HOT SPRINGS – Correctly spelling trinket and mutiny cemented Sarah Rosli’s position as the champion of the Hot Springs spelling bee.

There were 16 participants in the spelling bee, from grades five through eight. Each grade had four kids competing.

The competitors were organized in two rows or each; the started at one end of the row and moved down it before going down the second row. Each speller came to a microphone, saying their word before and after spelling it.

After an initial practice round, anyone who spelled a word wrong was eliminated. The first round only saw one elimination, but at the end of the second round, only nine remained. After the fifth round, they were down to five and by the end of the seventh it was the final two between Rosler and Josie Uski.

The final four participants will move on to the County Spelling Bee later this year; Rosler, Uski, Brianna Gray and Morgan Hoff will go to the bee with Lilli Detienne as an alternative.
