PLAINS – After a close game, pushed into overtime, the Plains Trotters edged out Arlee’s Lady Scarletts to claim the championship during last week’s District 14-C tournament.

The game was back and forth the whole way. Plains came out to an early lead in the first quarter, bringing in seven points to Arlee’s two. In the second quarter, though, the Lady Scarletts broke through the Trotters’ defense and pulled slightly ahead; the first half closed with a score of 10-13 to Arlee.

In the third quarter, Arlee kept up their lead; the plains team fought hard, but were not able to edge ahead to tie or retake the lead. In the fourth quarter, though, the Trotters burst back and broke through Arlee’s defense; as their defense kept the Lady Scarletts away from the net, their offense pushed through point after point. When the buzzer sounded, the game was tied at 26 points.

The Plains team’s energy and drive continued into the overtime quarter. They pressed through and kept Arlee at bay as they pushed through point after point in the quarter. The game came to a close with Plains back in the lead with a final score of 38-30.

The Thompson sisters led the team in the championship game with Leah bringing in 10 points and Jessica right behind her with nine. Kimberly Earhart and Jade LeDeaux brought in the third highest points with each contributing six.

The Trotters had their first game Friady, during the semifinal round; they beat out the Lady Tigers with a score of 47-26 and moved straight into Saturday’s championship round.

The team moves on to the Divisional Tournament at Flathead High School this week. Their first game will be on Thursday, February 25, against Ennis.
