County OKs big motor coach project

| February 29, 2016 8:11 PM

Superior residents might have some new neighbors rolling into town this summer with their RVs and top-of-the-line “motor coaches.”

Frank Ragland, owner of the proposed development met with county commissioners on Friday to finalize water waste and sewage drainage.

Ragland’s plan for the 70-unit site required a new sewer system. The plan was approved by the commissioners. For every two units, there will be one new sewage system.

The financial cost and maintenance of the systems will be the responsibility of the residents and the Shyrock Homeowners Association, which will also be collecting payments.

Out of the 70 planned units or “lots,” 30 are planned for Phase one and the rest will be developed in Phase Two. Each lot is for sale to a private owner and subject to property taxes, according to the commissioners.

Shyrock’s site is located at 4279 Mullan Road East, across from Superior Meats.

Ragland, who lives in Thorpe, Washington, said that the community is receptive to motor coaches that are less than ten years old, or in “exceptional condition.”

The lots will be owned by residents and the park will be open seasonally from April first until the end of November.

Baby Boomers—a large section of the country born between 1945 and 1965—are the largest demographic of RV owners and most are successful retired or semi-retired people, according to the Marathon Coach company.

The motorcoaches themselves can range in price from $200,000 and upwards of $2 million. Large models can be up to 45 feet long. Many amenities include expandable bodies: two to four slide out wall sections, which are pushed out when parked, and nearly double the living space inside.

Ragland’s Shyrock website offers a glimpse into the courtship of Boomers:

“Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat that has motorcoach friendly access, outdoor adventures or bountiful hunting and fishing, it is all waiting for you at Shyrock! Best Last Place today! And River Edge is awesome!”

Other attractions mentioned are the nearby amenities of Trestle Creek Golf, Glacier National Park, Quinn Hot Springs, and Lolo National Forest.
