Richard Halseth

This community recently lost a valuable member and good man who dedicated his later years to helping those who were struggling with a mental illness and/or a substance use disorder. Richard Halseth entered recovery in 2009 and began a personal mission to give back to his community for all that he felt he had taken in his earlier years. Mr. Halseth and Western Montana Mental Health Center in Superior, obtained a grant to create a Community Garden. Mr. Halseth was the caretaker, producer, and supplier of produce to the local food bank and many of those in need for five years. Mr. Halseth did not only provide food for those struggling with behavioral health issues; he also provided his time, friendship, and encouragement to aid in their recovery. The Community Garden created a place for people to find solace, safety, and reward yielding crops while also often escaping inner turmoil.  Mr. Halseth was a grateful man with a warm smile and big heart. In today’s world with so few of those who are willing to give back to their communities and take the time to listen to those who are struggling, he is a diamond in the rough, a rare breed of man, and a genuine friend. He will truly be missed.
