THOMPSON FALLS – Jody Marie Piscitello became the first baby of 2016 born in Sanders County after Joanna Piscitello of Thompson Falls gave birth at the Clark Fork Valley Hospital.

The newborn was delivered at 9:19 am on Friday, January 15. She was 18 and a half inches when born and weighed five pounds, eight and a half ounces.

Jody joins a family of six, comprised of Joanna, her father Bruce, siblings Destiny and Brooke Piscitello as well as stepsiblings Elise Piscitello and Keldon Cothem. The grandparents are Mary Lou and Steve Larsen on the mother’s side as well as Rick and Linda Piscitello on the father’s side.

The parents both thought the honor was “pretty cool.” They did not think it would happen given how late in the month it is and they felt another birth would have happened before they were ready.

“It was a surprise,” said Joanna.

It was close and Jody almost had the second baby of the new year. Joanna recalled it was a race and another expecting mother was getting ready to deliver in another room at the same time.

The birth has a bit of extra special significance to the family. Joanna recalled her sister delivered the new year’s baby in 2006 and this was now something they could share.

According to Bruce, their other children love the idea of having a baby sister. He also expressed his agreement about the honor.

“Having the first baby of 2016 is kind of special,” said Bruce.
