Mountain Cat boys bag Prospectors

The Mountain Cats took an early lead against Philipsburg’s Granite Prospectors game in Alberton on Thursday night. They only held a two point lead at the end of the first quarter, but that jumped to ten points by the end of the third quarter at 27-17. In the fourth quarter, Aaron Kelly went into overdrive and put eight of his 19 total points on the board, leading the Cats to a 46-32 win.

The Lady Mountain Cats game against the Prospectors was a high action, intense game which resulted in injured players on both sides. Both teams were putting numbers on the board, with the Prospectors taking the lead at the end of the first quarter with 17-8. As the game went on the teams were nose-to-nose with the score 22 to 22 with 2:02 left in the second quarter with ten fouls each.

Then the Prospectors turned up the heat and pulled them into a solid lead of 44-29 by the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter frenzy turned into injuries when Lady Prospector Maggie Althaus fell and landed hard on her head. Later in the quarter, Lady Cat, Celein Parkin limped off the floor with a knee injury. Throughout the final minutes of the game, the Cats continued to nip at the heels of the Prospectors, closing the gap to within 10 points. But the Prospectors turned it up again, and jumped ahead in the final few minutes of play with a 63-49 win.
