Blueberries take spill on I90
<p>:A semi-truck loaded with blueberries flipped into the median near mile marker 42 on the morning of July 2. No major injuries were reported.</p>
Two men escaped injury after a semi-truck carrying blueberries overturned in the median on I-90 on July 2.
The two male drivers managed to escape the truck without serious injury. One man was transported by ambulance to the hospital for a minor head injury. One person was in the sleeping compartment at the time of the accident
The call came in to dispatch around 8 a.m. Superior and St. Regis volunteer fire departments responded, as well as the St. Regis HazMat team — followed by a Superior ambulance.
The accident took place near mile marker 42, heading east. During the incident, an unanchored microwave oven crashed through the window when the truck flipped onto its side.
The truck—on a delivery route from British Columbia, Canada—had a shipment of blueberries, which were individually packed. This reduced the amount of berry spillage.
Officials reported minimal fuel leakage, and cleared the area in under two hours.
“It was important to get all the blueberries out of the area, said Rob Torrey with the Superior Fire Department.” “Otherwise, wildlife would end up on the freeway eating the berries.”
