Write-In candidacy formed last week

Superior resident, Mike Curtin, was handing out flyers in Superior last week stating that he will be a write in candidate for Mineral County Commissioner. Curtin will be running against Commission Chairman, Roman Zylawy who has held the position for the past six years.

The flyer states that Zylawy “needs to be replaced so that we can get some safe and reasonable leadership on our County Commission.”

Mike’s sister is Patti Curtin, one of the sheriff department employees who is currently on strike over a wage dispute with the county. Mike decided to run for Commissioner after the strike began. He is a retired truck driver and has lived in the area for 23 years.

“I’m sick and tired of the way the county is being operated,” said Mike. “I’ve attended meetings numerous times regarding different issues, but this is the one (regarding the strike) that broke the camel’s back.”

He would like to see more transparency between the county’s activities and the public. He would also like to look at ways to trim the budget, and bring more revenue into the county. Since he entered the race late, he is a “write in candidate” for the June 7 ballot.
