Lovebirds take daily walks

PLAINS — Gerald and Doris Larson take an afternoon walk just about everyday.
Nothing too strenuous or demanding; usually a mile or two. They live in a house near Railroad Ave., so they normally stick to the sidewalks and make a loop through town.
The route they choose takes them up to the library before they make their way back home. They estimate the distance is close to a mile, maybe more than a mile. And their walks—casual, relaxed—through good weather and bad, do not take long. There are however, exceptions.
“It usually takes us about 20 minutes,” Doris said on Friday afternoon in front of the old schoolhouse, “unless we stop and visit.”
More often than not, the occasion presents itself to see friends.
The Larsons have lived in Plains since the mid 1950s, after they moved here from Minnesota. They were newlyweds, give or take a year or two.
At the time, Gerald was a music teacher, a profession he continued when they came to town. He worked at Plains Elementary School as its music teacher for 15 years. Eventually, he served as principal.
As the saying goes, it was love at first sight when the Larsons came to Plains.
They have lived here ever since. This June they will celebrate 64 years of marriage.
As of Friday, they said they did not have any special plans for the day. Maybe they’ll take a walk.
