Thanksgiving holiday will be a wet one

The busiest travel period of the year will reach its peak over the Thanksgiving holiday. About 48.7 million Americans will hit the roads and skies and travel 50 miles or more from home on Wednesday, Nov. 23 to Sunday, Nov. 27, according to projections from the American Automobile Association (AAA).

They estimate that 89 percent of travelers (43.5 million) will drive and 3.69 million are expected to fly. Storms are reported to hit on Tuesday and Wednesday which could cause delays on highways and at airports.

Rain is expected in Nebraska and Iowa to northeastern Texas according to AccuWeather, with snow in western Nebraska, the Dakotas and western Minnesota. Rain and mountain snow is also predicted in Idaho, Seattle, Portland and central California on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Here in Mineral County, Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of snow with lows in the mid 20s to lower 30s. On Thanksgiving Day it will be mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of rain and snow showers. Highs will be in the mid 30s to lower 40s with rain and snow showers likely into the evening with 60 percent chance of precipitation, with lows in the mid 20s to lower 30s.

On Friday there’s a 70 percent chance of precipitation with highs in the mid 30s to 40s with a 50 percent chance of rain and snow in the evening. Saturday is more of the same with a 70 percent chance of snow with highs in the 30s. Sunday is even wetter with a 90 percent chance of rain and snow with highs in the 30s.
