FFA team takes first place at John Deere Expo

The St. Regis Future Farmers of America (FFA) Ag Communications team took first place at the John Deere Ag Expo in Bozeman. The Expo was held at the Montana State University Campus on Nov. 17 through 19 with about 1,500 other FFA members from around the state.
The Ag Communications team consisted of Madi Hill, Emma Hill, Travis Jaquez, Anna Sanford and Kylie Thompson. Madi Hill also placed second and Anna Sanford placed third overall in individual AG Communications.
Other St. Regis members participated in livestock judging, horse evaluation, food science, meats evaluation and mechanics. The three day event included workshops and speakers.
“The competitions are practice for the state convention which will be held on March 22 through 25 in Great Falls,” said FFA advisor, Cheras Antos. This is her first year as advisor after Holli Nielsen moved last summer and left the position vacant.
FFA became a national organization in 1928 and was formed as a way to promote and support agricultural education in middle and high school classrooms. The organization’s stated purpose, according to the website, is “to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.” Including such diverse fields of study as science, technology, business, food, fiber and natural resources industries. FFA chapters teach students real world applications for their fields of study.
