Prolific Plains quarterback Ryan Ovitt and his top two receiving targets have landed on Western C eight-man all-conference teams.

Ovitt, a senior, led the conference with more than 1,800 passing yards and was named to the all-league second team as both a quarterback and punter. The senior was also recognized as an all-state performer and has been selected to participate in the Bob Cleverly eight-man all-star game this summer in Butte.

Horsemen receivers Aaren VonHeeder (first team) and Alec Cole (second team) were named all-conference as wideouts. VonHeeder was the conference leader in receiving yards despite missing two games with an injury. Cole made the second team as both a slot receiver and defensive back.

“That was kind of our fearsome trio right there,” Plains coach Juan Lulack said. “People had to plan for our attack with those guys.”

VonHeeder could join Ovitt in the all-star game. He’s currently the third alternate and would participate should three or more players be unable to attend the event, usually held the first weekend in June.

Ovitt, VonHeeder and Cole all were all-conference picks last season as well.

The Horsemen finished the 2016 season with a 2-6 record.

“Offensively we were a dynamo, defensively we were a wet paper bag,” Lulack said. “But I really enjoyed the kids this year, really enjoyed the football. We had a lot of fun.”
