April opens with Ronan Invitational

With a brief rest after the Jim Johnon track meet in Frenchtown, the Plains, Hot Springs, and Thompson Falls track teams were in action again on April 1 at Ronan for the Ronan Invitational.

“Ronan was a great meet for us. Jess (Thompson) was playing softball Drumond so we didn’t have her but the rest of the team had a strong showing for us. Some of the athletes are trying to find events that fit them however.” Plains track coach Denise Montgomery stated about the performance of the Plains track team.

The Plains girls team placed seventh in the overall standings with a score of 33. In the 1,600, Analisa Loberg from Plains, placed second with a time of 5:59.51. Kara Altmiller from Plains placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 30 feet, 4.5 inches, she also placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 92 feet.

The Thompson Falls girls team placed ninth with a score of 27. Haley Morgan placed fifth in the 200 with a time of 29.32 seconds. The team placed fourth in the 400 relay with a time of 56.17 seconds. Hope Slater placed sixth in the 1,600 with a time of 13:44. In javelin, a second place win went to Madison Wheeler, with a distance of 104 feet, 7 inches. Wheeler was third in the pole vault, clearing a height of 7 feet, 6 inches. Ember Scwindt placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 8 inches.

The Thompson Falls boys team placed third overall with a score of 76. McKenzie Holt had a very productive day placing high in several events; second in the 200 with a time of 24.01 seconds, fourth in the shot put with a distance of 45 feet, 2.25 inches, second in discus with a distance of 140 feet, 2 inches. In javelin Kade Van Elswyk placed second with a throw of 148 feet, 5 inches.

The Hot Springs boys team placed seventh with a score of 30. Trevor Paro from Hot Springs placed well in several events; fourth in the 110 hurdled with a time of 17.50 seconds and sixth in the 100 yard dash with a time of 12.44 secibds. James DeTienne placed fourth in the 1,600 with a time 5:05.
