T. Falls boys second at Jim Johnson

Spring has arrived and with it the track and field meets in Montana. The first big track meet for many Sanders County teams was recently held and tested the athletes abilities and agility in many different events; running, relays, discus, javelin, hurdles, high kump, pole vault, triple jump, and shot put. The Plains, Hot Springs, Thompson Falls and Noxon track teams were in action on Mar. 30 in Frenchtown at the Jim Johnson Invitational.

Trevo Paro of Hot Springs ran the 100 in 12.22 seconds, which helped the Hot Springs boys team place 10th in the overall team standings. Hot Springs placed fifth in the 400 relay with a time of 48.83 seconds.

The Thompson Falls boys team placed second with an overal score of 91. Tyler Carr placed fifth in the 110 hurdes with a time of 18.48 seconds. Garret Strine of Thompson Falls ran the 200 in 24.38 seconds to win second place in the event. Colby Lantz of Thompson Falls placed fifth in the 3,200 by running it in a time of 11:53.90. Danny Hoisington ran the 300 hurdles in a time of 46.80 seconds to win sixth place. The 400 relay had Thompson Falls win second place with a time of 45.94 seconds. McKenzie Holt won third place in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 5 inches. Holt won second in the discus with 142-foot throw. The Thompson Falls boys placed second in the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:50.19.

The Plains Girls events had a very strong start to the track season by placing sixth in the overall team standings with a score of 41. Jessica Thompson placed first in three events; discus, javelin, and shot put. Thompson’s discus win was with a throw of 116 feet, nine inches. In the shot put, Thompson had a distance of 38 feet, 8 inches. Thompson’s javelin win was with a throw of 112 feet, 9 inches. Kara Altmiller won third in discus with a throw of 100 feet, 8 inches. In the long jump, Kylee Altmiller had a distance of 13 feet, 10 inches. Cree Lulak of Plains won fifth place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 57.42 seconds.

The Thompson Falls girls team placed fifth overall with a score of 49. Ember Schwindt won second place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.23 seconds. The girls 400 relay was won by the Thompson Falls team, ran by Maya Stiles, Haley Morgan, Gillian Nelson, and Ember Schwindt with a time of 54.15 seconds. In the 3200 Rachel Ribeiro of Thompson Falls placed third with a time of 14:30.72.

The next track meet will be the Eureka Invitationl on April 8 at 10 a.m.
