Trotters struggle, come up short vs. Loyola, Libby

The Plains/Hot Springs softball squad had a tough week, falling to Loyola Sacred Heart 9-5 Thursday before dropping both games of a double header against Libby Saturday.

Loyola jumped out to a 9-0 lead after five innings of play Thursday but had to hold off a late charge by the Trotters to get the win. The Plains/Hot Springs squad scored off five of its runs in the bottom of the fifth but could not complete the comeback as the Breakers held on to win by four runs.

Jessica Thompson went 2-3 for the Trotters in the loss while Sydney Jackson, Natalee Deschamps ands Stacy Gray also added hits. Jackson, Rachel Worall and Gray each batted in runs for Plains/Hot Springs in the contest. Trotters’ pitcher Kayle Hickethier took the loss.

The Trotters suffered a pair of losses at home Saturday s they fell to Libby, 10-0 and 22-1.

Plains/Hot Springs managed just two hits and comitted seven errors in the opening game a of the day as Libby picked up a 10-0 victory. The Trotters trailed just 1-0 after four innings of play but Libby tacked on nine runs in the fifth to win via the 10-run mercy rule.

Audrey Brown and Gray had the two hits for the Trotters in the contest while pitcher Jessica Thompson took the loss.

Libby jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning in the second game of the day and never looked back as the Lady Loggers picked up a 22-1 victory.

The Trotters’ lone run came in the fourth inning as Plains/Hot Springs again had only two hits in the game while committing 11 errors.

Deschamps and Kelsey Standeford had the two hits for the Trotters in the contest while pitcher Brown suffered the loss.

The 2-3 Trotters will be back in action April 20 as they travel to face Anaconda before playing at Deer Lodge April 22.
