Alberton residents join Science March

A group of Alberton residents joined thousands for the Science March Saturday. Over 600 cities around the world rallied and marched to promote that “science is based on facts, and facts are not partisan.”

Armed with signs reading “Science is not Superstition,” “Be a Citizen: Read, Question, Think,” and “Science Saves Lives,” 32 Alberton men, women and children marched down Railroad Avenue to show their solidarity for the cause. Saturday was Earth Day and the marches turned the day into an homage for science.

The march was a protest against the Trump administration’s proposed cuts to various federally funded scientific education and research programs. Hundreds of community members in Missoula also joined the march and gathered in Caras Park. Various speakers talked about science and scientists before the crowd marched down Kim Williams Trail, and looped back on Orange Street and Higgins Avenue.

Thousands gathered at the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., where organizers of the event sought to call attention to climate change and Trump’s budget cuts to organizations that aid scientific research. Including cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency, and National Institutes of Health.
