| April 26, 2017 4:00 AM

Eight local residents recently passed their EMT class and are now ready to take the state exams. Superior teacher, Beau Servo; St. Regis teacher, Laura Jarvis; Superior High School student’s Matt Buchanan and Nathan Lapinski; Mineral Community Hospital employee, Jess Hope; AEMT, Anita Parkin; ambulance driver, Michael Bowen; and Brendan McEldry.

The state exam will include hands-on evaluation at six patient assessment scenarios, and then a National Registry EMT written exam in Missoula. After successful completion, they will receive state licensing, said Superior Fire Chief, Rob Torrey.

“It’s always a challenge to get volunteers,” said Torrey, “ideally we (the Superior Volunteer Fire Department) should have 25 volunteers. We currently have around 17, but we’ll lose three over the summer.”

Most of the EMT class members will serve in Mineral County, between the West-End, Superior and Alberton. However, specific assignments have not been determined.
