Rick Lee Galloway, 68

| August 8, 2017 11:29 AM

Rick left us on July 31, 2017, for another adventure; this time in heaven with his daughter, Hannah Lee, and all the others that went before him. He was born into this world in Clarkston, Wash. on April 13, 1949.

In the early 1950s his mom met up with George Rigby, Rick’s hero. His mom married and the blended family all came together. Rick was blessed with four brothers: Michael, Bob, Lloyd, and Doug, and a special sister Carolyn Squires. He also ended up with two more brothers, Steve and Kevin, and three sweet sisters, Cheryl, Starla, and Dara. Rick traveled with his family to little logging towns around Northwest Montana; wherever they could find work horse and cat logging. He worked with his dad, fished and hunted with his dad, and he drank a bit with his dad.

Rick graduated in Hot Springs with the Class of 1967. He decided to enlist into the Army to see the world; far cry from milking cows. Well, he traveled and served two tours in Vietnam as Special Forces over three years; came home with a Purple Heart and Silver Star and feet still full of shrapnel. He went right back to logging, all aspects of the job, running all the equipment, hooking, sawing, plotting and planning. He worked very hard and was a great teacher to the green horns. He was one tough man.

In 1976, he met up with the woman who would be his wife of almost 41 years, Debby. They lived nine months out of the year over in the Idaho Cedars in the Diamond logging camp. They both worked and stayed in on weekends to fish and explore. It was a great life and when Diamond Mill shut down so did Rick’s jobs. He had a son, Logan, his best friend and a beautiful daughter, Hannah; they both brought much joy to their father.

Eventually Rick was deemed totally disabled by the VA. It had taken its toll on him. He fished and fished and bought lots of boats, crashed boats, and defied gravity.

Rick was a teacher to all, and had stories that lasted for hours and hours. He could be a “Rambo” on the outside and a huge heart inside; he had many, many friends in his life.

Rick is survived by his wife, Debby, son Logan, five brothers, two sisters, five grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nephews, aunts, and uncles along with many in-laws too numerous too mention.

He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Joan and George Rigby, his daughter Hannah, sister Starla, brother Kevin, and many other relations.

Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Please join family and friends at a Graveside Military Honors on Saturday, August 19, at 11 a.m. at the Superior Cemetery.

Condolences and funny stories are welcome at PO Box 474, Superior, MT 59872. A celebration of Rick’s life will take place at a later time.
