Plains School, teachers, sports teams gearing up new year
A good school is like a good team it comes down to communication and the same end goal.
Plains School Superintendent Thom Chisholm says that he is very excited to be adding to an already fantastic team that runs from Kindergarten to Grade 12 graduates.
“Education is Quality of Life,” said best by Superintendent Chisholm. With a team at the ready to inspire those future professionals, everyone seems to be feeling that learning feeling ahead of 2017/18 school year.
Students and teachers are now counting down the days not weeks until the official start of the year. From Elementary to High School the classrooms are starting to get into the full swing with all preparations now coming together.
This year sees one of the largest transitions within the school as some new faces are set to enter the halls and some are just changing rooms.
From Elementary to High School there seems to be plenty for students to be excited about.
You’ll be seeing Karli Cavill as the Elementary Title 1 teacher who will also be assisting in reading and Maths for grades 1-6.
Jaron Laws will be a staple for 6th grade students this year.
Kari Schellky is coming in for grade 7-12 students teaching English and French.
Rheanna Fultz is stepping in as the Elementary Councillor and she’ll also be teaching Jnr. High School Science this year.
Katie Mitchell will be taking charge of Computer Science for grades 7-12, while her husband Kyle Mitchell will be inspiring all those who will be taking shop.
Of course you cannot forget Eddie Fultz as the High School Football coach. Jaron Laws will be taking on the assistant coaching position alongside Fultz this season for ‘The Horseman’.
Lisa Brown will be seen in a different part of the school as she transitions from 6th grade to High School Math.
Lisa has been a staple at the Plains School inspiring her kids each year as they pass through her class. She is not only very enthused about what she teaches, she is also a fantastic all-rounder when it comes to her profession.
Former second grade teacher Nichole Cockrell will now be looking after the JMG program. The Jobs for Montana Graduates program at the school; is one that Superintendent Chisholm said,”This is a fantastic program for all our kids that move through it. It really helps set them up for their future job interviews they will have, and of course those dream careers we know they can achieve.”
Jo Stout will be the a permanent fixture within the cafeteria. Not only does she have a great reputation with the staff, her fresh fruit and veg snacks for the kids of an afternoon are always a big hit.
Arguably one of the most important positions in the school is the librarian. Plains former Title 1 teacher Marlee Meredith will be this years K-12 librarian.
What is most interesting and even exciting is that everyone that works at the school, new and same, all have solid ties to the community.
From extended family to generations living here, even some are apart of the a long list of educators that have been inspiring kids for many years to reach their academic dreams.
As classes are now underway with full preparations for the return of students, there is already a buzz in the hall ways.
A new school year of fun and learning are on the way as teachers and staff look to put the finishing touches together to welcome back all students with enthusiasm.
