Janie Garza Beaver passed away Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, peacefully with her family by her side. She was born Dec. 26, 1942 to Isabele and Jesus Garza in Cadereyta, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arnulfo and Simon Garza, her sister, Bertha Scheinder, her parents and her son, Nicholas Charles Petersen, Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, James R. Beaver, her daughters Janicka (Marc) Umile of Missoula, Rebecca (Mike) Howard of Spokane Valley, Wash., her wonderful grandchildren, Jacob, Hailey, Noah Howard and Dominic, Nicholas, Sammy and Daniel Umile, Eric, Brandon and Ryan Petersen, her brothers, Joe (Victoria), Ernie (Maria) and Manuel (Katia) Garza, her sisters Betty (Frank) Tijerina and Linda Sanchez and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Janie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her large family. She was an avid creative crafter and seamstress. She enjoyed cooking and gardening and doted on her two Shih Tzu’s, she often cooked them eggs in the morning and they will miss her dearly.

Janie raised her family in Mount Vernon, Wash. and then later moved to Newport, Wash. where she met her husband, Jim.

Janie and Jim travelled the entire United States and ultimately settled in Plains, where she was active in the local VFW and often could be found playing Bingo with her friends. During the cold Montana winters, Janie travelled to Corpus Christi, Texas to visit her sister Linda and run a booth selling her homemade clothing under the label “Handmade by Janie Beaver” at the Corpus Christi Trade Center.

She was loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew her.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life for her in late spring. If you are so inclined, in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Janie’s honor to a charity of your choice.
