A Frenchtown man was sentenced on Dec. 13 to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to drug charges. U.S. District Judge Susan Watters sentenced John Thomas Giblin, III to a 108 months in prison followed by 3 years supervised release.

Giblin is a 45-year-old Frenchtown resident who authorities say on three different occasions sold a total of 215 Oxycodone pills, 40 Morphine pills, 35 Methadone pills, 29 Demerol pills, and 10 Valium pills valued at more than $9,000 dollars to an undercover agent from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

On May 27, 2015, Giblin had made arrangements with an undercover agent to buy 1 kilogram of cocaine and ½ pound of methamphetamine in exchange for money, marijuana, and more prescription pills. Giblin agreed to meet the undercover agent in the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Missoula.

Giblin was arrested after the package containing the drugs was delivered to him. He had also brought about $12,000 in cash to the drug deal. After the arrested Giblin was interviewed by authorities and admitted that he was planning to re-sell the methamphetamine to make money.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan R. Whittaker and investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
