Cabinet Ridge Riders giving back to the community

The Cabinet Ridge Riders have been in existence for the last 26 or 28 years, depending on whom you ask. The group is very active within Sanders County with their generosity from their fundraising and several recreational events in the great Cabinet Mountains near Trout Creek, Thompson Falls, and Noxon.

During the winter, the group holds an annual Poker Run on snowmobiles.

“We will have a warming cabin located at Marten Creek where there will be free hot dogs and chili for those competing in the Poker Run,” Dave Anderson said. “The snowmobilers continue on and try to get the best poker hand from the cards remaining available to them. Imagine spending your time off recreating in this amazing natural Montana landscape and at the same time helping out other organizations and your neighbors in need living in Sanders County.”

Spring and summer events include an ATV and horseback poker runs. There will be other events announced in the year ahead. The fundraising is a large part of the group’s events and has continued to benefit many locally. The money raised by events goes toward several $3,000 scholarships at schools in Sanders County and helps fund the Thompson Falls, Trout Creek, and Noxon fire and ambulance departments.

The group holds meetings every second Tuesday of each month at the Lakeside Resort and Motel in Trout Creek. According to Anderson, the group is always looking for new members and volunteers.
