Hospital Health Fair to be held in May

The Mineral Community Hospital Health Fair will be held on Saturday May 20th in the Superior Elementary School Gymnasium. A full schedule of events will be posted on the Mineral Community Hospital Community Calendar at http://www.mineralcommunityhospital.org in May. Events will include discounted lab draws, and there will be a strong focus on the reason it’s important for everyone to have a primary health care provider, said the event coordinator, Monte Turner

“In Mineral County, we have excellent health care providers at Partnership Health Center-Mineral County and in St. Regis at the Jack Lincoln Memorial Clinic. A big reason it is so important is because of the free health services everyone receives if they have health insurance,” he said.

Many people are not aware of these services and so this year’s fair will have vendors on hand to help explain, and let people know what to expect from, their insurance.

Mineral Community Hospital is also purchasing a mobile foot orthotics machine that they hope to unveil during the fair. The machine will create custom build orthotics for a reasonable price, even for flip-flops and sandals.

Audiology and hearing aid representatives who will soon be at the hospital’s Specialty Clinic, will also be there. Plus dental services, home health care new to the area, and health services for most residents in County 54.

For additional information regarding the health fair, or if you would like to become a vendor, contact Monte Turner at monteloie@montana.com.

CIT training to be offered in Missoula

CIT Montana is an umbrella group that coordinates Crisis Intervention Team Training and development across the state. CIT programs are local initiatives built on strong partnerships between law enforcement, mental health providers, and individuals and families affected by mental illness. The CIT system attempts to divert mentally ill individuals from the Montana State Hospital and the criminal justice system when possible and safe, and instead connect them to appropriate local mental health services that allow them to stay in their communities http://www.citmontana.org/

CIT is considered a “Best Practice” model in law enforcement. This primer for mental health practitioners serves as an introduction to a model that may already be utilized in their community or serve as a springboard for the development CIT programs where they do not currently exist https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3769782/.
