•Plains squeaks by Lady Tigers, 45-43

Plains barely squeaked by St. Regis in girls basketball on Thursday, Jan. 5 with a final score at the buzzer of 45-43. Just across the river in Plains, the St. Regis Lady Tigers were only behind four points at the half, 21-17. They put up another seven points in the third quarter to the Trotters’ 11. In the fourth quarter, Plains had a comfortable lead, 32-24, before senior Madison Hill pushed a final charge-putting 10 of her game high — 26 points — on the board. But the team couldn’t put up the final two, for a game-ending one basket loss. Justice Tate added another 7 to the score, Anna Sanford 6, Madison Kelly and Emma Hill both had 2.

The St. Regis boys didn’t fare as well as the girls in their Thursday night match-up against the Plains Horsemen, taking a 73-39 loss. Plains took a solid lead in the first quarter, putting 25 points up, to the Tigers’ 8. The Horsemen kept them at bay throughout the game, putting 13 and 14 points on the board in the second and third quarters to the Tigers’ 7 and 12 points. They charged hard again in the fourth quarter with another 21, to 12 against St. Regis. Brock Cantrell-Field lead the team with 16 points. Trevor Lowry had 9, Brandon Managhan, 7, Eric Eslick, 5, and Nic Day, 2.

•Victory for Clark Fork Mountain Cats

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats had a double victory over Victor in Friday night’s match-up in Superior. The boys played a nail-biter as they fought their way to a first win in the Western District 13-C game. The teams were within points of each other throughout the game, but with 15 seconds left in the final quarter, Carson Callison passed the ball inside to Korey Radford, who tossed one in for the win of 51-49.

Five eighth-graders have just been brought up to play to round out the Cats’ roster. Bryan Mask and Carson Callison charged into their first season game, putting 7 points each on the board. Senior Nick Turnbull had his season high game with 23 points. Mike Spence had 5, Korey Radford, 6, and Taryn Ververis, 3.

The Lady Clark Fork Mountain Cats pulled into the lead against the Lady Pirates early in the game and held their lead until the final win of 42-28. The Lady Cats are 3-1 in league and 5-1 overall so far this season. Kenzie Mueller and Hailey Kelly had game high points of 12 each. Sam Clevenger had 6, Madison Mask, 4, Margaret Parkin and Sophia Krutilla had 2 each, and Emma Dubois, 4.

•St. Regis soars past Two Eagle River

The St. Regis Tigers squared off against Two Eagle River with a double conquest at home on Friday night. The Lady Tigers dominated play in the Western 14-C competition with a blow-out final score of 63-10. Madison Hill scored an impressive game high of 28 points, with 17 in the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers are 3-2 in conference play and 4-3 overall and had 40 points on the board at the half, to Two Eagle’s 6. They then put another 19 up in the third quarter, and 4 in the fourth. Madison Kelly had 13 points for the evening, Anna Sanford, 8, Emma Hill, 7, Justice Tate, 6, and Kylee Thompson, 1.

The St. Regis boys also tromped Two Eagle with a 72-51 win. They held a steady lead throughout the game, coming out strong in the first half with a score of 35-8.

“We pride ourselves on defense and we showed that early,” said head coach Jesse Allan. “The guys responded well after two tough losses and that’s a big step moving forward. This group has worked hard and the second half of the season should be exciting.”

Brock Cantrell-Fields put up the game high 23 points, with 16 in the first half. Trevor Lowry added another 18 points, and Brandon Managhan followed with 15 more. The boys are 3-2 in conference play and 4-3 overall. Ian Ferris and Erick Eslick each had 4 points for the evening, Nic Day, 6 and Andres Sanford and Zane Antos each with 1.

•Clark Fork girls win against Two Eagle River

The Clark Fork Lady Cats stomped on Two Eagle in Saturday night’s match-up in Pablo, with a 61-14 win. Freshman Samantha Clevenger led the way with 13 points, followed by Sophia Krutilla with 12, and Kinzie Mueller, 10. The Cats were up 46-6 at the half. Both Emma Dubois and Haley Kelly had five points each, Hannah Calloway, 3, Madison Mask, 9, and Rebecca Pluth, 4.

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats boys couldn’t catch up as Two Eagle swooped in during the fourth quarter for a 59-36 win. Two Eagle was in the lead by a basket by the end of the first quarter, 16-14. By the half, they were up by 10. But in the fourth quarter, they took charge and put another 19 points up to the Cats six. Two of Two Eagle starters returned that night from an absence, Isaiah Mathias, who put up 15 points, and Zach Mathias with nine. Michael Spence led the Cats with 14 points, Nick Turnbull and Taryn Ververis has eight each, Korey Radford, 4, Bryan Mask and Carson Callison each had one.
