Trotters, Horsemen rout Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS — Saturday’s game for the Hot Springs Savage Heat against the Plains Trotters was a battle, as the girls of Hot Springs seemed to be struggling on both offense and defense in a 47-25 Plains win.

Stacy Gray and Sydney Jackson raced up and down the court to fend off the Trotters offense but Plains moved the ball very effectively against the Savage Heat, often making shots right after the other within a few seconds. Hot Springs’ girls seemed to struggle with getting the rebounds after many missed shots. Stacy Gray helped lead Hot Springs with nine points. The girls valiantly tried to catch up with the fast-paced Lindsay Laws, who had a big scoring game with a total of 22 points.

Plains 71, Hot Springs 49

Hot Springs seemed to have difficulty with the Horsemen consistently pulling down rebounds and scoring points from many places on the court in a very physical game Saturday. Several times the players were scrambling with each other to possess basketballs that had been mishandled.

A spectator was ejected from the game for comments or a gesture made to one of the referees. The referees also warned other fans they could be ejected from the game if they continued their comments.

The Savage Heat seemed to lose track of man-to-man coverage and often discussed it on the court while Plains was at the free throw line. Plains Coach Mike Cole could be heard loudly directing his players during the game. Once during the game, there appeared to be a heated exchange between Cole and one of the officials at the main table. When the second half of the game began, it seemed tensions had reduced with some of the coaches and players.

It was clear to many fans in the Hot Springs viewing section that Trevor Paro was getting exhausted. Paro worked tirelessly to direct his teammates when they were on offense as he scored a total of 26 points. Ryan Ovitt seemed unstoppable for Plains as he finished with a total of 30 points.
