Members and leaders of the Sanders County 4-H program helped to host the biennial 4-H Legislative Breakfast and Citizenship Seminar in Helena on Jan. 15-17. The following members participated: Tressa Lyscio, Lydia French, Claire McAllister, Elena McAllister, Josey Neesvig, Elsie Brown and Ben Croft.

This year, a majority of legislators attended the Legislative Breakfast to learn about the 4-H program in Montana, including local Representative Bob Brown. Members also met and participated in citizenship workshops with Gov. Steve Bullock, Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney, Secretary of State Corey Stapleton, U.S. Senator Steve Daines and Montana Supreme Court Justice Laurie McKinnon.

With a focus on “4-H Grows True Leaders,” this year’s event presented 4-H alumni and current 4-H members with leadership skills that are positively impacted by 4-H and Montana State University Extension. Members toured the Capitol, the Supreme Court and the Montana Historical Society Museum as well as completed blankets and dog toys as a community service project. Participants stated the most educational activity was writing a draft bill and participating in a mock legislature process.

The educational programs of 4-H are open to all youth. For more information, contact the Sanders County MSU Extension Service at 406-827-6934.
