Savage Horsemen finish second at Ted Kato Invitational

The Savage Horsemen traveled to Thompson Falls Saturday to participate in the 23rd annual Ted Kato Invitational Tournament. Many of the wrestlers began by warming up, running laps, stretching or by practicing their moves with their fellow team members. A total of 12 teams were at this tournament and matches started at 9:30 a.m. and were completed around 3 p.m.

There were two main mats in use during the tournament. Each match began with a two-minute clock. At times, the matches were over within the first two minutes. Other matches lasted the entire three two-minute rounds. Wrestlers won their matches two ways; by either being awarded points for moves, pins, escapes or through decisions made by officials.

The Plains-Hot Springs co-op team had a final score of 118 points.

In the 120-pound weight class, Daniel Uli pinned Tyler VanTassel in a time of 2 minutes and 21 seconds during the semifinal match. In the 126-pound weight class, Josiah Vanderwall pinned Eric Dolence of Ronan in a time of 11 seconds in the semifinals.

Luke Lile, who pinned Seth Cheff of Ronan in 3 minutes and 34 seconds, won third place in the 145-pound weight class.

James Detienne of Plains won the championship in the 152-pound weight class by pinning Stormee Kipp in 56 seconds.

During the 160-pound semifinals, Kane Lawson of Plains pinned Caleb Sherill of Flathead in 1 minute and 32 seconds. Kane Lawson won the Championship by a decision against Matt Holman from Big Fork, 5-1.

The Savage Horsemen Wrestling team will host the Plains/Hot Springs Mixer Invitational at Plains Jan. 28. The wrestling matches will begin at 9 a.m.
