Lazier Creek Fire now 70 percent contained

Emergency crews are beginning to get the blaze that has been burning for little over a week at Lazier Creek under control.

Ignited by lightening strikes, it took close to four days before management teams could estimate how much had burned.

As of Monday morning, it is estimated that 1,145 acres of Forest have burnt, and the fire is at 70 percent containment.

With five fires in the Highway 2 corridor, Thompson’s Type ll Incident Management Team took to control all fires as quickly and as safely as possible.

With the aid of air attacks, and weather being more favorable then expected, the blaze has been brought under quicker than expected.

Roadblocks on the Thompson River Road were lifted Sunday at around 6 a.m. Though the road is open, DNRC and USFC, along with local law enforcement, urge travelers to use caution as increased traffic still remains.

Local residents near the blazes have also seen support from all teams involved with keeping their properties safe.

Lazier Creek now has 362 personnel on the scene, who are continuing efforts to grid the fire and extinguish any hot spots that arise.

Mop-up operations on the remaining perimeters of the fire are also going strong, as fire fighters were able to the mop several hundred feet into the interior.
